Vision
Cedar Valley Waldorf School provides a holistic education that addresses the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of the child. The school develops confident, independent thinkers who have a strong social and environmental conscience and who respond to the world with compassion and creativity. The school community honours the child, fosters harmonious relationships and celebrates the wonder of life.
History
The Cedar Valley School Association, a non-profit charitable organization, was established in 1999, and registered as a society in January 2000. In 2008, the Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) officially recognized the Cedar Valley Waldorf School as a developing Waldorf School.
The Cedar Valley Waldorf School was started by an enthusiastic group of parents inspired to bring Waldorf education to Squamish, British Columbia in 2000. Initially a parent and tot group, the Morningstar Kindergarten was established in 2002 with 15 happy children. The following year the Rainbow preschool was born and the grade school was created with a mixed age Grade 1 to 3. In 2004, the grades classes along with the kindergarten were recognized as an independent school by the Ministry of Education of BC. Now a fully established school, Cedar Valley Waldorf School will add a grade each year until the full complement of Grade 8 is reached. As of 2011-2012 we offer parent and tot, preschool, and Grades K-8.
In the summer of 2008 we purchased a Mennonite church in Valleycliffe and transformed it into a beautiful school.
Strategic Planning
In October, 2011 under the guidance of Karen Humber, CVWS launched a Strategic Planning Process to create a united vision and build the future of our school. View the report from our launch and community consultation meeting.
The process continued on Nov 25 to create a Practical Vision of what we’d like to see at the school in 3-5 years.
